The patent-pending technology embodied in the XIM Miniature Mixer attachment for the
SER2 Model Line
of the SER Universal Testing Platform can convert a conventional controlled stress (single motor/transducer module)
rotational rheometer into an internal batch mixer system for miniature-scale materials mixing, blending,
and compounding. Designed as a detachable fixture for use on the
SER2-P,
SER2-G,
SER2-T,
SER2-M, and
SER2-R Model Lines,
the XIM Miniature Mixer is ideally suited for compounding applications in which the
batch ingredients may be available in very small quantities as in the case of precious model polymers, polymers produced
on a laboratory scale bench top reactor, or exotic filler/nano-filler media. Whether you are challenged by
limited compound ingredient availability or you'd prefer the luxury of compounding on demand without
the need for bulky processing/compounding equipment, in the tradition of SER Technology the XIM Miniature Mixer
allows a customer to further unleash the full potential of a commercial rotational rheometer system.

By simply attaching the XIM Miniature Mixer attachment to any of the aforementioned SER2 models
the torque signal from the host rotational rheometer system can be used to monitor in real-time the entire evolution of the mixing protocol.
Whether operating in a controlled rate mixing protocol or a controlled torque mixing protocol,
the XIM can be used to compound material batches on a sub-4 mL scale for subsequent broad range miniature scale physical materials testing
with the SER Universal Testing Platform. When comparing
the mixing performance of the XIM Miniature Mixer with conventional laboratory and pilot scale mixing platforms,
as demonstrated in the published literature the properties of the compounded batches
are virtually identical despite the fact that the XIM is orders of magnitude smaller in scale.

Each XIM Miniature Mixer kit comes standard with two pairs of rotor configurations manufactured from
surgical-grade hardened stainless steel. When configured with the dual sigma blade rotors the XIM
has a maximum volumetric capacity of 4.0 mL. When configured with the dual 2-wing rotors the XIM has a
maximum volumetric capacity of 3.75 mL. Hence, the XIM Miniature Mixer attachment is ideally suited
for mixing protocols requiring only 2g to 2.5g in total batch weight. From broad-range
physical material characterization to material compounding at a miniature scale, the SER Universal Testing Platform
together with the XIM Miniature Mixer Attachment
can cover an even broader spectrum of your material preparation and characterization needs.
Please contact your respective
host rheometer system manufacturer for more sales and pricing information on the XIM Miniature Mixer attachment
for use on the
SER2-P,
SER2-G,
SER2-T,
SER2-M, and
SER2-R Model Lines.

As stated above, each XIM Miniature Mixer kit comes standard with a pair of
surgical-grade hardened stainless steel 2-wing rotors (XIM-S2W) and a pair
of surgical-grade hardened stainless steel sigma-blade rotors (XIM-SSB). Spare rotors and the additional accessories
listed below can be purchased separately.
|
 |
The XIM-S2W rotor set that comes standard
with each XIM Miniature Mixer kit consists of a pair of
2-wing rotors constructed of hardened,
surgical grade stainless steel.
When configured with these XIM-S2W rotors the XIM has a maximum volumetric chamber capacity of 3.75 mL.
These rotors are typically recommended for
polymer melt blending and compounding where the mixing torques are generally higher than for doughs, gels, powders and pastes.
Each rotor has a major width dimension of 0.530 inches (13.5 mm) and a length dimension of 0.625 inches (15.9 mm).

The XIM-SSB rotor set that comes standard with each
XIM Miniature Mixer kit consists of a pair of
sigma blade rotors constructed of hardened, surgical grade stainless steel.
When configured with these XIM-SSB rotors the XIM has a maximum volumetric chamber capacity of 4.0 mL.
These rotors are typically recommended for
the mixing, blending and compounding of doughs, gels, powders and pastes.
Each rotor has a major width dimension of 0.530 inches (13.5 mm) and a length dimension of 0.625 inches (15.9 mm).

The XIM-A2W rotor set consists of a pair of
2-wing rotors constructed of hard coated
aluminum.
When configured with these XIM-A2W rotors the XIM has a maximum volumetric chamber capacity of 3.75 mL.
These rotors are typically recommended for disposable use for
polymer melt blending, compounding, and mixing protocols where sample cleaning is otherwise difficult.
Each rotor has a major width dimension of 0.530 inches (13.5 mm) and a length dimension of 0.625 inches (15.9 mm).

The XIM-PMC mixing chamber assembly consists of an optically
clear polycarbonate mixing chamber and removable lower chamber cover.
This XIM-PMC clear mixing chamber is recommended for mixing temperatures below 240°F (115°C) for
flow visualization and ingredient tracking studies during the mixing, blending and compounding of
doughs, gels, powders and pastes.
